Field mapping to import your data

Data mapping when importing into Pipedrive can sometimes be complex, so here we explain a bit about how it works and how to map different data in Pipedrive.

The complexity of mapping your import in Pipedrive depends on how each field is configured, for example, fields with multiple options require an extra step to map correctly.

The correct import of data into Pipedrive starts with a mapping of the columns of your spreadsheet, so you must make sure that all your information is correctly structured.

Let’s start with the basics

Element icons

The icons must map to each of the fields for your data to be imported correctly.

Each element is represented by an element icon: people, companies, deals, actions, notes, products, prospects. Remember to click on the icon to select the correct field when mapping.

Usually the mapping is automatic, however not everyone does it, so you will have to do it manually and Pipedrive recommends always checking your mapping before proceeding to prevent errors.

Now that you have set up your spreadsheet and imported, you can start the mapping process. When doing so remember to select the icon, then click and drag the field to the left side of the page to match the columns of the spreadsheet. Pipedrive will be reading your data correctly if you see the data in the first row of your import.

Mapping of multiple choice fields

Before you start, make sure that the multiple action custom field has already been created.

When you have mapped the field, click on it to expand it and check the individual mapping of each option on your sheet. Check that all the fields on your sheet have been mapped to the custom field options.

If your fields are not mapped properly, click and drag the correct options to the corresponding options in the spreadsheet.

Address mapping

1. In separate columns

In your own spreadsheetadd the address with separate address fields in different columns.

Select the individual address fields from Pipedrive and match them to the fields in your spreadsheet.

2. In a single field

In your spreadsheet add the complete address in a single field separating the address elements by commas.

Pipedrive will use Google’s Geolocation API to locate your address, it is important that it is well written to be found but it is also vital that you take into account that not all addresses are geolocated with veracity.

Phone number mapping

In this case you have the option to select the phone label to map, if there are multiple numbers you can map the field multiple times by adding the numbers in separate columns. You can choose between the labels Work, Home, Mobile or Other.
